I have established my teaching practice at my home in
the Preston Park area of Brighton. I teach mainly on a one-to-one
basis, although joint lessons can be arranged under certain circumstances.
Lessons are structured to develop all areas of guitar playing technique and focus on the student's individual musical direction - this could be rock, blues, jazz, funk, pop or punk. The role of the tutor is to help the student build a solid playing technique, develop an understanding of music theory and maximise the enjoyment of playing guitar. I also encourage students to write songs, form bands and start playing live at an early stage. What's in a lesson?
Many people want to learn guitar because of the music they love to listen to. I can help students learn any piece of music they feel they want to learn and also guide a student to guitar styles that they may not have considered. I am a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors and so can guide students through London College of Music examination grades. This is not for everyone but can lead to UCAS points which are useful when applying for further musical education. Amongst the tutor books that I recommend are RGT, Rockschool, Hal Leonard and Mel Bay. All of these books are carefully graded tutorials and reflect some of the best guitar teaching ideas from around the world. These can be sourced for students and passed on at cost price. Cost
